Access Garden :: IRRIGATION :: Water Storage
Water Storage TanksWith 13 million people under a hosepipe ban, watering the garden has just become much more difficult. Collecting and storing water is a feasible option as even in summer, a surprising amount of water falls from the sky. In June, average rainfall will yield 55 litres of water for every sq m of catchment area. Catching from one side of an average detached house will yield between 2,000 and 3,000 litres of water a month, enough to water 40 sq m of borders. The main challenge is where to store the water as traditional water butts are just too small, but commercial sized tanks are available. These have capacities for up to 10,000 litres, and have the advantage of being topped up with mains water when there is no hosepipe ban in place.
