Cold Frame
Cold Frames (or garden frames) are perfect for hardening off work as a compliment to a greenhouse.
Used as a cold frame, with no heat, a garden frame can be placed over an area of soil in the early Spring to warm the soil prior to planting. The warmer environment under the glass of the cold frame ensures that crops in the cold frame will grow more quickly than their counterparts outside. The garden frame also provides protection from heavy rain, hail and snow, which could otherwise damage the crop.
A garden frame is an ideal compliment to a greenhouse. In the Springtime, the cold frame can be used for hardening off work. An Access cold frame is ideal for this as the sliding glass panels provide infinitely variable ventilation. A mist watering system is also available for the cold frame, allowing gentle watering to take place without having to remove all of the glass from the cold frame.
In the Winter, a smaller garden frame can be taken inside the greenhouse to provide a 'double glazed' area for more delicate plants. In cacti houses, the garden frame can be heated to a higher temperature, providing a an economical way of cultivating the most delicate cacti.
For alpine growers, an Access cold frame is the ideal way of caring for more delicate plants. The garden frame has vertical glass sides, which can be slid for access and ventilation. Because the roof of the cold frame can be left closed, the rain can be kept out while still keeping the Alpines cool.
