Access Garden :: COLD FRAMES :: 4ft Wide Cold Frame
4ft wide Cold FramesThe original 10ft x 4ft cold frame was developed over 50 years ago. The term ‘Access Frame’ was coined to reflect the unique sliding glass design. Unlike traditional Cold Frames, there were no heavy tops to lift, and because the side glass also slid, ventilation was very effective. Since the 1950’s many thousands of cold frames have been sold.Garden Cold Frames are an ideal way of getting planting off to a flying start and sheltering delicate plants from the worst of the weather. In early Spring, the soil inside the Cold Frame will warm up much more quickly, allowing earlier planting. Garden Cold Frames can also be used for hardening-off seedlings. As the sliding glass panels also lift out, the cold frame doesn’t get too hot in Summer. For plants such as Alpines, the top glass can be left on and the side glass removed.
