Wooden Raised Beds
Raised bed gardening is very popular, especially for growing vegetables. Not only do raised garden beds look great, but:
- The soil drains better and warms more quickly
- There is less bending down
- Weeding and cultivation are easier
- Soil is never walked on and compacted

- Permanent paths can be laid between beds
One of the unique benefits of the Access raised bed system is its compatibility with our Cold Frames. For even earlier cropping an Access Frame can be placed directly onto the raised bed.
Access timber raised beds are made out of Sustainably Sourced PEFC certified timber.

Timber raised beds for growing vegetables and flowers
The wooden boards used in the timber raised bed are pressure treated for a long life outdoors. If the board are regularly treated with a preservative a 15 year life can be expected. The boarding is also thicker than standard at 27mm thick. This reduces warping and bowing of the timber raised bed.
Timber raised garden beds have a number of advantages over growing directly into the soil. If the soil quality is poor, the raised garden bed can be filled with fresh compost. As the wooden bed is raised off the ground, the sun will warm the soil in the timber bed more quickly, allowing the growing season to start earlier. When planting flowers or vegetables, this allows everything to gain a head start. As the raised bed is above ground level, there is less bending involved, and the paths between each growing bed can be grassed or gravelled.
By putting a number of raised beds together, a raised bed vegetable garden can be constructed.
