Garden Thermostat
When using an electric heater in the greenhouse, it is important of use a greenhouse thermostat to control the heat. Many electric heats have a built in thermostat, but this is not always the best solution.
A built in thermostat will only sample the temperature next to the heater, not really the best place. It is much better to take the temperature reading using a greenhouse thermostat located on the other side of the greenhouse. A good quality external greenhouse thermostat is likely to be more accurate than a cheap thermostat built into the heater.
Two types of greenhouse thermostat are available, a mechanical thermostat, which has a probe sensor, and an electronic greenhouse thermostat, which has a remote probe and a highly accurate LED display. This greenhouse thermostat also supports the option of turning the heating element and the fan on separately. This allows for either heating with the fan on only when the element is on or running the fan all the time (to reduce cold spots) and only bringing the element on when the temperature drops. The electronic greenhouse thermostat will also allow the thermostat to bring on the fan in Summer for cooling purposes.
