Basket Watering
Watering hanging baskets and tub planters is always difficult. The small compost area in a hanging basket or a patio planter makes it difficult for the container to retain enough water. Watering cans are heavy and cumbersome, especially if the hanging basket is at high level.
The best way to overcome watering problems is with an irrigation system such as a hanging basket watering kit. The system can also be used for watering patio tubs and watering planters. The basket watering kit uses small bore (pencil thick) pipe to run from the tap to the baskets. Each basket has a small watering dripper, which slowly adds water to the basket or tub. The tap can be turned on to water, or a timer can be used to automate the watering. When watering baskets and tubs, it is best to water 2-3 times a day: once in the early morning, once in the evening, and during hot spells, once at midday.
If there is a hosepipe ban or drought order, a water butt basket watering kit is also available that can water from a water butt. Rainwater, caught in a water butt can be used to water baskets and tubs, even if there is a hosepipe ban.
