Greenhouse Irrigation

Greenhouse irrigation, especially during holiday periods, can be time consuming and tedious. Greenhouse irrigation systems can either cover the whole area, using a greenhouse irrigation system mounted up in the eaves of the greenhouse or glasshouse, or can use a greenhouse irrigation system that uses small drippers to bring water to each individual plant.

On overhead greenhouse irrigation system is the simplest to install, with irrigation pipework mounted above head height along the ridge of the greenhouse or polythene tunnel. On the irrigation pipe, a number of sprinklers nozzles are mounted, providing gentle, rain-like watering of the whole greenhouse or polytunnel. To water the greenhouse, the irrigation system is turned on for 15-20 minutes per day, either by hand or by using an automatic tap timer, which can be programmed to water at pre-set times of the day.

To water individual plants, such as tomatoes, a drip greenhouse irrigation system is best. The Access 'Hanging basket watering kit' is ideal for this purpose, as it contains all of the drippers and pipework needed to water the plants. A slim pipe is taken from the greenhouse tap, and laid alongside the pots to be watered. A small dripper is inserted into each pot, and again a timer can be used to automate the system.

If there is no mains water available, Access produce a greenhouse irrigation system that uses drip nozzles that can be connected to a water butt.
