Greenhouse Heater
Greenhouse heaters are the ideal addition to a greenhouse. Greenhouse heaters can be used to provide create a
'cool greenhouse' environment where the temperature never falls below 13 degrees Celsius (40oF) or to create a
'warm greenhouse' environment.
Greenhouse heaters have a number of fuel sources. For smaller areas under glass, electric greenhouse heaters are often used. This has the advantage that it is easily controllable and the provision of a power source is straightforward. Often electric greenhouse heaters will have a fan on them to facilitate air movement inside the greenhouse, reducing the potential for cold spots.
A low cost method of heating is paraffin greenhouse heaters. These only cost a few pounds and need to be filled with paraffin. Although heaters may have one or two burners to give some control over the heat output, there is no thermostatic control, once they are lit they will operate until the paraffin runs out.
A popular fuel source for greenhouse heaters, especially for larger greenhouses or commercial glasshouses is gas. Gas greenhouse heaters can be powered either by natural or propane gas. These types of greenhouse heaters can have a thermostat incorporated to provide temperature responsive heating. On smaller models the thermostat can operate without the need for mains electricity - ideal for greenhouse heaters located away from a power source.
