Louvre Vents

Designed to open and close automatically to ventilate the greenhouse, the louvre vents are an invaluable accessory for our Mini greenhouses and Growhouses.

With no running costs or power needed, the vents ingeniously use thermal expansion to operate the vents.

A greenhouse is designed to trap the suns warmth and give a more temperate growing environment for plants, but greenhouse temperatures need to be controlled. An automatic louvre vent will ventilate the greenhouse, even if you are out.

  • Ideal for ventilating the greenhouse when you are away
  • Temperature responsive, it will open and close on its own
  • No running costs or electricity needed
  • Ideal for early Spring growing when nights are cold

The Auto Opener

The ingenious vent opener consists of a temperature sensitive piston and compression springs.

When the temperatures are low, the force of the springs keep the vent closed. As the temperatures rise, the plant oil inside the the piston expands, pushing down on the shaft and opening the louvre.

As temperatures cool in the evening, the power of the springs is greater than the force on the shaft and the vent closes again – all on its own.

When to use an automatic vent

Spring

Spring

The auto vent is most useful in the Springtime – overnight temperatures are low and the frame needs to be closed each night to prevent the plants getting a chill. However, in May the sun can rise at 5am, and once the sun is on the Mini greenhouse, temperatures inside will rise quickly.

Summer

Summer

In Summer, supplement the ventilation from the louvre by opening the sliding panels. On cooler days, if the door on the opposite end of the mini greenhouse is opened an inch or two, as the vent opens it will draw air through.

Autumn

Autumn

In September and October the cool nights mean that the frame needs to be closed at night, but in the day there is plenty of power in the sun. As temperatures drop the vent will close, opening again in the early morning sun.

Winter

Winter

If the greenhouse is being heated then the link arm can be disconnected to prevent the louvre opening. We also supply the glass sheet that would normally fit at the end of the Mini greenhouse, so as an option the louvre can be completely removed.

The piston will tolerate temperatures of up to -20 degrees Celsius.
